Vygantas Paukste was born in 1957 in Vilnius. From 1976 to 1982 he was studying painting in the Vilnius Academy of Arts. He has been participating in exhibitions since 1984. From 1984 to 2000 he was a member of group “24”.  He works as a teacher in Justinas Vienozinskis art school. He was given a golden button in 2009 by Lithuanian Artists’ Association.

“Pictures of Vygantas Paukštė that, from the first sight, seem to be rather even (monotonous) are in the reality remarkable for the diversity of the means of expression used. The artist is extremely fond of molding “decorative“ elements (surfaces painted evenly in one color; flat contour figure) together with the “painterly“ ones (nuancing, multi-color and factured spaces; figures modeled by light and color). Moreover, the author often matches a “fleshy“ figure to a silhouette; the impressionist painting to the contour drawing; introduces another “picture“ into the existing one. All these combinations (with regard to a good quality of the works) could be names as “productive eclectics“.”
